I just wanted a bigger bag

So here is how this all started.....

Once upon a time, in a magical store known as the Disney Store, I was doing my Christmas shopping.

The Disney store Pictures, Images and Photos

Customer service at the front was AWESOME. It really does help when the store clerks can tell you if something is sold out or not. The front of store clerk save me time by letting me know of the items that were sold out. So I took my purchases up the front of the store to pay....Cue bad musical drama here....

I was ringed up for two items, which totaled under $20 dollars. The items were handed across by a competent cashier whose tag read Leon. I had the audacity to request a...A BIGGER BAG please....Leon went on to explain how bigger bags are in fact reserved for purchases that require the storage space. I thought he was joking, and asked again. Firmly, Leon's reply said that he could not. There was a policy that required purchases to be bagged in a size appropriate bag.

I really just wanted the bigger bag, and no hassle, so I offered to pay for the bag. No, that was not an option. So what did I do?

"I want my money back." These were the best words I spoke all day. Terrible when your defining moment is standing up to a cashier for something so trivial. Why give my money to a store that is unwilling to do something that seems so easy to accomodate?

I did get my money back. Leon was competent throughout the process, and I was careful to not be negative towards him personally. I did make it a point to say how silly this all was, and I left.

Gotta tell you, it feel good, no it felt vindicating. I have often wondered about buying my daughter princess type play toys. The idea that a prince will rescue her. Don't get me started on that on. Feeling the better of it I went and found educational toys.

So I went home and googled Disney Stores....It all became apparent.

Disney stores have had a number of closings. Just short of 100. Wonder if any of the customers at those stores never came back because they were not given a bigger bag?

Disney is one of the kings of merchandising. Do they really think strict bag policies are helping the stores profitability? 98 store closings says they need to repeat retailing 101. I know some mouse fans out there will be quick to point out that the old owner of the stores, "Children's Outlet," had too aggressive an expansion plan, but really, how can you not have a single store in a major metro area? I'll let you see what areas are unserviced with mouse merchandise.
